Additional Setup Notes
- Dizzy Bat should be played outdoors with plenty of space and caution to prevent injury.
- Create a Dizzy Bat setup by chopping the very bottom of the handle off of the wiffle bat. Drill a hole in the side of the bat about 4 inches from the top to let airflow through the top.
- After deciding the turn order, players should put their finger over the choke hole drilled inside of the bat while a friend pours a beer into the bat through the handle.
Objective
Dizzy Bat, also commonly called D-Bat, is a popular drinking game often played at parties, tailgates, or outdoor drinking events. The objective of Dizzy Bat is for players to chug a full beer out of the holding end of a wiffle bat and then spin around for as long as they took to finish the beer. After going round and round, players must successfully hit their beer can with the bat to hit a grand slam.
Gameplay
Dizzy Bat is a fun-filled twist on baseball that adds drinking and lots and lots of twirling. The game will begin with one player choosing who will be the swinger and who will pitch and count. Once this has been determined, set up the round by filling up the bat with an entire beer.
The game begins as soon as the swinging player starts chugging their drink. The surrounding players will then count off in seconds how long it takes for the player up to bat to finish their full beer. Players should continue counting until the batter turns the bat upside down, proving they’ve successfully finished every last drop of their beverage.
Once the count has concluded, this becomes the magic “dizzy” number. Once the batter has chugged their beer, they must then lean over and place their forehead onto the bat’s handle, spinning for however many seconds it took to chug their entire beer. For example, if the batter takes 35 seconds to down their beer, they will spin around their bat for 35 whole seconds.
After the batter has finished spinning, they have 3 seconds to stand up and attempt to sturdy themselves before they’re up to bat. Another player will toss the wiffle ball (or empty beer can) into the air for the batter to hit despite their dizzy brain. If the player swinging misses the can, they must spin an additional three times around the bat and try again.
Endgame
Players win Dizzy Bat after successfully chugging, spinning, and swinging to hit their target. Dizzy Bat is great for small or large groups with addictive replayability. Try keeping score of each player’s success to make it more competitive!
Dizzy Bat Variations
Dizzy Bat is a cherished game on college campuses and among large parties, but can be adjusted to suit different situations and age groups. Here are some of the most common twists on Dizzy Bat
- Dizzy Bat Relay: Larger groups of players can opt to do “Team Dizzy Bat,” a popular variation on the game that involves two even-number teams competing in a relay-style race. The bats will serve as the relay’s batons as the teams face off. The game will start with both teams facing each other about 15 yards apart, with both bats starting on the same side.
- Instead of timing the chugs, players will drink a full beer as quickly as possible, spin around their bat 10 times, and then run to the next player within their group to pass the bat. The team that finishes the race first, wins!
- Caution: It should be no surprise that alcohol, spinning, and running within one game can be a dangerous mix. When playing Dizzy Bat Relay, make sure to drink responsibly!
- Sober Dizzy Bat: You don’t need alcohol to get discombobulated in the game of Dizzy Bat! Dizzy Bat can be adjusted to be good for all ages by skipping the first step of chugging a beer. All of the rules of the Dizzy Bat relay apply for Sober Dizzy Bat, just ditch the chugathon!
- Baseball Dizzy Bat: If you’ve found yourself struggling to locate wiffle balls or bats, it’s super easy to play with a standard baseball bat, an arguably more hygienic take of the game. Instead of filling up the bat, players just need to chug their entire can, bottle, or cup of beer before they start spinning on the bat.
