Objective
Bet on the correct number, color, or area of the roulette table.
Gameplay
Roulette is a game where players place chips as bets on different areas of the Roulette Table. There will be 37-38 different individual numbers you can bet on as well as other betting options such as red, black, 1-18, 19-36, even, odd, and all 3 rows of numbers on the table.
After bets are placed the dealer will spin the Roulette Wheel and drop the ball on the wheel. The ball will travel around the wheel eventually landing on a single number. Based on where you bet your money you either win or lose based on this number. Half of the numbers will be red, and the other half will be black, so if the ball lands on black 20 and you have bets placed on the black bet and had a bet on the 20 on the table you would win for both bets.
Inside Bets
Betting the interior of the table means you are betting on individual number instead of the outside areas of the table which are groups of numbers. There are multiple different ways to place bets on the inside of the table and all have different odds and payouts.
Straight up: Place your bet in the center of one number on the board (pays 35 to 1)
Split bet: Place your bet on the line between 2 numbers to bet both of those numbers (pays 17 to 1)
Corner bet: Place your bet on the intersection of the lines of 4 numbers to bet all 4 of those numbers (pays 8 to 1)
Street bet: Place your chip on any of the “streets” which is the area at the top of bottom of any 3 number column (pays 11 to 1)
6-line bet: Place your chip on 2 streets to bet on 6 numbers in those streets (pays 5 to 1)
Included in the inside bets but on the outside of the numbers will be 0 and 00 where payouts are the same.
Outside Bets
On the outside section of the betting area will be different groups of numbers you can bet on.
Color bet: Bet on either red or black (pays 1 to 1)
Even or Odd bet: Bet on either even or odd numbers (pays 1 to 1)
Row Betting: Bet on either the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd row of numbers (pays 2 to 1)
High and Low bet: Bet on either 1-18 or 19-36 (pays 1 to 1)
Table Minimum
Roulette tables will typically have a “minimum bet” you must make in order to play. If this minimum bet is $5 you must bet at least $5 on either the inside or outside of the table. This $5 can be split up however you like but is separated by the inside and outside. If you wanted to place $1 on five different numbers that would cover your inside minimum but if you also wanted to bet on the outside you would need to bet at least $5 on the outside as well.
Roulette Rounds
After the ball has stopped on a number and the dealer has paid out the winners and collected the losing chips there will be a moment for everyone at the table to collect their bets. There is no set amount of time for this to take place and it is up to the discretion of the dealer at the table. If bets are very active and multiple people are at the table the dealer will typically give players more time to place their bets. After this period of time, the dealer will wave their hand over the table indicating that they are not accepting any more bets. They will then spin the wheel and drop the ball. If you try to place a bet after the dealer waves their hand the bet will not be accepted, and there is the possibility you will be removed from the table.
FAQs
Should You Tip Your Dealer?
Yes, if you are winning. If you have won more than you lost at the table typical dealer tips are 5-10% of the profit from your bet.
Is there a trick to winning roulette?
Roulette is truly a game of random chance. There are many different strategies that players will use, but because of the inclusion of 0 and 00 on the wheel, the house will always have the advantage in roulette.
The best strategy to play at the table for a longer period of time is to bet the outside. The outside-of-the-table bets cover many numbers and red/black, and even/odd have slightly better odds for the player than betting the inside of the table. Your chances of winning on either of these bets is 47.4%.
