Setup
The components of a Scrabble game are a playing board, 100 letter tiles, a tile rack for each player, and scoring tools (pencil and paper). Each player uses their letter tiles to take turns creating words on the game board.
Scoring
To win at Scrabble, you must accumulate as many points as possible by creating words on the grid. Some tiles, like the “Q” and the “Z,” are worth more than others when used to form a word, and points are awarded accordingly. Using tiles on “double letter” or “triple word” squares on the game board will earn you bonus points. The winner of the game is the participant who finishes with the most points.
The winner is determined by who has the most points when time runs out.
Objective
To win a game of Scrabble, you must accumulate as many points as possible by arranging tiles to create words. Certain letters, such as “Q” and “Z,” are worth more points than others when used in a word, and this is reflected in the amount of points awarded. Using tiles on premium squares on the game board, such as “double letter” or “triple word,” can result in bonus points. A game is won by the player who has amassed the most points by its conclusion.
Gameplay
At the start of each turn, players choose seven tiles at random from the remaining pool and use them to build words on the game board. Each word you create must use at least one tile from the board, and it must be arranged in a continuous line. If a player is stuck and cannot think of a word to play, he or she may choose to swap out some or all of their tiles for new ones.
Endgame
All of the tiles are drawn and used up by one player, or when the players mutually agree to end the game. At game’s end, the victor is the player who has amassed the most points.
Variations and Alternative Rules
The rules, number of players, and even size of groups can all be changed up for a new experience when playing Scrabble. You can also play with a different scoring system, such as whoever reaches a predetermined point total first.
